Youtube video:

I'm going to guide you folks through a couple sites around my neighborhood in Higashiyama!

Heian-Jingu Shrine Grand Torii (平安神宮 大鳥居)

First site up is Heian-Jingu Shrine Grand Torii, the gate I wake up to every morning. I couldn't ask for a better view, unless it was a front row seat at a Nano concert.

She's one of my favorite Japanese Rock artists!

Heian Shrine (平安神宮)

Just a couple blocks from my apartment lies Heian Jingu! There's various festivals held here throughout the year, and many people come to pray regularly for good fortunes or to just find peace of mind.

Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社)

A few blocks to the East of my apartment is Yasaka shrine. Like Heian Jingu there are a few festivals here throughout the year. During New Years I found it to be the busiest shrine around my area.

Sanmon (南禅寺三門)

Sanmon is the great gate towering in front of Nanzen-ji Temple. You can even walk up to the top balcony area to enjoy the views.

Nanzen-ji Temple (南禅寺)

Nanzen-ji is a more tranquil garden like temple, with many girls wearing kimono to get their best instagram pictures in. You can spend lots of time here sitting on the benches and breathing in the fresh mountain air coming down into the temple.

Suirokaku Water Bridge (水路閣)

The Suirokaku Water Bridge was an aqueduct used to transport water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto a hundred years ago. Now it's become a popular insta photo spot with unique archways creating a trippy tunnel like view.

My best attempt at a Tinder profile picture. I did try the app out in Japan with very very very very very little success; and I did actually try using this picture for my profile LOL.

Maybe I'll do an article about dating in Japan sometime and share all my fail stories in a humorous way as a form of psychological therapy for my hurt ego.

Lake Biwa Canal Museum (琵琶湖疏水記念館)

If you folks have been reading my blog you know this site! It's the fountain by the Lake Biwa Canal Museum during the evening. The Sakura in the background were really pretty as well I thought.

Keage Incline (蹴上インクライン)

My last stop before heading home took me again to the Kaege Incline. I have no idea when it closes... I think in Japan everyone is pretty considerate about rules and when not to go into places that they don't need signs. Or maybe there are just ghosts out at night so people know to stay in?
