My first journey to explore the Arashiyama area!

Arashiyama (嵐山)

Arashiyama is a quiet little river town you can find on the Western edges of Kyoto. There are boat rides you can take along the river, Rickshaw's you can ride along the streets, and plenty of Temples to explore around the area. The area definitely has the Kyoto traditional atmosphere going for it with many people walking around in Yukata and Kimono.

Katsura River (桂川)

This is the main river running through Arashiyama called the Katsura River. The river runs all the way down to link up with the Kamo River in the Southern regions of Kyoto.

Togetsu-kyo Bridge (渡月橋)

Togetsu-kyo Bridge is over 400 years old and is made completely of wood. It provides crossing over the Katsura River.

Arashiyama Park Nakanoshima Area (嵐山公園 中之島地区)

When you cross over the Togetsu-kyo Bridge you end up on the Arashiyama Park Nakanoshima Area. It's a little island park with a few cafe's and nice paths going around the park. You can get a nice view of the Bridge and Katsura River from here.

Todofuken Michi Kyoto (府道京都八幡木津自転車道線 起点)

On the West side of the Katsura River there is a bicycle path you can take going along the River. It seemed to be pretty popular with the locals.

Katsura South Side River Path

I named this pathway myself since I couldn't find a name for it on Google maps. It's my favorite pathway to take in Arashiyama! I would see boats with tour groups come up this river pretty often.

Tonase no Taki (戸無瀬の滝)

Along this pathway I came across the Tonase no Taki.

Kimono Forest (キモノフォレスト)

Right as you get out at Arashiyama Station (嵐山駅) from the train you can step into the Kimono Forest. There are 600 pillars in total with Kimono textile patterns wrapping around the pillars. At night time the pillars light up.

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest (嵐山 竹林の小径)

I didn't explore the main section of the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, but this is a side area with some pathways and bamboo trees. The bamboo trees blockout most of the sunlight here and create a nice rustling tone when the wind blows through them.

Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street (嵯峨鳥居本伝統的建造物群保存地区)

The Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street lies towards the Northern area of Arashiyama. There are no cars around here so it's perfect for biking leisurely or taking a stroll through the 19th century wooden Japanese homes.
