I traveled by bicycle today to Arashiyama to meet up with a friend I met in Kyoto. I biked from the Higashiyama area to Arashiyama, which is a fairly easy ride without many hills and some nice bike lanes.

Date I went: 04/25/2020

Arashiyama (嵐山)

Arashiyama is the western most district of Kyoto known for picturesque mountains and the Katsura River flowing along the town.

Togetsu-kyo Bridge (渡月橋)

The Togetsu-kyo Bridge is a 400 year old wooden footbridge that cars also cross as well. You can see many people crossing it on a normal day and the river flowing underneath it is a sight to behold.

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest (嵐山 竹林の小径)

Prepare to be transported into another world! The Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is one of the best places in Kyoto to find tranquility and meditate. I would recommend spending at least an hour here listening to the bamboo trees make the sound of chimes in the wind.

Mt. Ogura Observatory (展望地)

The hike up to the Mt. Ogura Observatory only took my friend and I around 30 minutes, but it's a great hike to take leisurely. The view at the top of Kyoto is spectacular and you can take in the Katsura River as well.
